My Plate is Full-er

Because apparently I needed one more thing to juggle, I started a new photography project recently – a Year in Pictures. Similar to my 365 Self-Portrait Challenge, this new project will have me taking a photo every single day. But the subject is wide open – I can take a picture of anything I want.

2 - Tulips

Day 2 – Tulips in Bloom, Downtown Louisville

I’m giving myself a LOT more leeway with this project, and not fretting too much if I miss a day. I’m also still allowing myself the luxury of not expecting every photo to be the! most! amazing! shot! EVER! It’s really another attempt to see if I have the stamina and discipline for a long-term project, as well as giving me the opportunity to learn more about my camera and processing photos. I’ve already noticed that since I’m not the subject of the photos, I have more time to play with the camera settings.

12 - Screen

Day 12 – After a rainstorm. Not the best shot, but it was a good effort!

One other thing I’m trying to do with this project is use the “big, fancy camera” for every photo. Granted, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with my point-and-shoot.  I know many, many people have done this project with cameraphones and iPhones and point-and-shoots and every other kind of camera, and produced way better shots with those than I can with my fancy camera. But I’m trying to get myself in the habit of using it, and learning to use more of the manual settings instead of relying on the all of the automatic features of the camera.

15 - Hopeful

Day 15 – More flowers. Expect to see a lot of flower photos this spring.

So far, I’m really enjoying this. Granted, it’s only two weeks into the project.

We’ll see how I feel around day 284.
