Streets of Fire – A Follow Up
A few points of clarification from my last post. Because I just can’t let go of that crazy movie.
- In the time since I wrote that, I do believe I have watched the entire movie. However, I think I’ve watched it in snippets, always catching it at different points here and there when it’s on cable.
- I just checked, and Streets of Fire is not available on Netflix for instant streaming, or I’d be watching it in its entirety right this very minute.
- I think I’ve realized that the reason I never saw this during the 80s was because we didn’t have HBO. But that does not make up for the fact that I never rented it. However, since I had friends who had HBO, it’s probably because they had already seen it, therefore not really rental-worthy when watching TV as a group.
- As for an early 80s disco dress, think of a 70s disco dress, but with bigger shoulder pads.
- In the original post, PB McCoy did point out the fact that Lee Ving was the lead singer of Fear. Matt, you’re right, I did listen to Fear the Record enough in high school that I can still shout along with “Have a Beer with Fear” and “New York’s Alright if You Like Saxophones.” (And I wonder why I can’t remember the quadratic equation). However, again, I had NO IDEA that that was the same guy. I never knew the lead singer’s name when I listened to the band, and almost fell over last year when I learned that Lee Ving was that guy.
Speaking of the movie Clue (which we weren’t, but we were speaking of Lee Ving, who was in Clue, so there you go): The first time I watched Clue the movie was with a fairly large group of friends. Before the movie started, Co-Emp told us: “Every time they say the name ‘Mr. Boddy,’ we have to say ‘neeba neeba neeba.’ Every time.” So during the course of the entire movie, everytime someone said “Mr. Boddy,” we all shouted “Neeba neeba neeba!” as fast as we could, trying to be first to say it. Afterwards, we asked Co-Emp, “why did we have to do that?”
To which she replied, “I just wanted to see if you would.”
I love that story. Oh, Co-Emp, I wish we lived closer to each other.
And with that, I’m going to have to add some songs to my iTouch. I’m all 80s nostalgic now.
