Time to Get Packing
There was a time in my early twenties when I moved Every. Single. Year. My leases always seemed to change over around September, so each autumn found me filling out change of address forms and spreading the word about my new phone number. From New Hampshire to Boston to Ohio, this nomadic behavior finally ended when Mr. Martini and I landed in Chicago, and actually kept the same address for four years.
Granted, we then moved to another apartment where we lasted for 18 months before moving to Louisville last year.
So it shouldn’t come as a huge shock to anyone, least of all me, that Mr. Martini and I will be packing and moving again this month. Which means – yes! We found an apartment! It’s sunlit and more private and has a garage, and best of all it’s in a neighborhood where, if you’re feeling ambitious, you can walk to shops and restaurants. I am super excited.
But the best part – the BEST part – is that we actually have “overlap” time during the move. So instead of needing to move all of our earthly possessions in a single day, as well as cleaning not just the old place but the new place as well (one to be clean before we move our stuff in, the other to be clean to get our precious deposit back). Oh no, not this time. This time, we’re signing the new lease a week before our old lease is up. This time, we have a car so we can make trips back and forth between the apartments, so we can clean and move non-essentials in increments. This time, the movers will only have to move the big stuff, instead of having to move every single thing we own all at once, which means the move will be faster and cheaper.
Can you tell I’m really happy about this?
Because I am.
I’m also determined to stay happy about this, because this means that October may just kill me. Not only are we moving, but I’m still taking the photography class, AND this is the busiest month at work of the entire year. So I’m setting myself up for a stressful, stressful time. But I think that as long as I stay calm and organized, I’ll still be able to fit some downtime and some fun in there, too. Because without it, I may just go crazy.
Yay! New apartment! Let the packing and organizing begin!

Great news! Moving is a pain, but I’ve done it more times than I can count, and it’s always fun to settle into a new place. Glad you found something!
Congrats on the new spot!
