Anticipation

Just when I had chilled out about the apartment hunt, I found another listing that I was really interested in. I called about it, talked to the manager, and he needed to check his schedule and call me back. Which he didn’t. Which is bumming me out, so I’m trying not to think about it.

Which is why I’m going to change the subject dramatically! (*insert needle across record noise*)

I started a photography class last week, did I mention that? I should say that it is less of a “photography” class and more of a “learn how your fancy camera works so you can take it off the fully-automatic setting and actually know what the word ‘aperture’ means” class.

Before the first class last Thursday, while we waited for class to start, we all sat round the tables arranged in a big horse shoe shape and just sat quietly. Some people who signed up with friends talked quietly, but the rest of us just kept to ourselves, discreetly checking each other out and comparing cameras that we all sat out in front of us.

I had that moment of anticipation, looking around the room and wondering who would be the suck-up, who would be the perpetual question-asker. There’s always a know-it-all, there’s always a cynic, there’s always an ornery contrarian in every class, and I wondered which of the people around the table would take up these roles. Before class starts, you have no idea what the class dynamic will be like. It’s fun to guess, and it’s fun to see just how right or wrong you are as the class progresses.

I had a few people pegged by the time class was finished. And of course, I was seated next to the distracting chatterbox. I’ll most likely move seats next week.
