Jumping on the Bandwagon – 101 in 1001

In typical SpaceCase fashion, I’m jumping on the bandwagon about 4 years after it really hit its stride.

I’ve been seeing “101 in 1001″ lists since I started blogging about 4 years ago. I remember Dancing Brave had one, and a few other people did, too. I kind of forgot about them, but then they started reappearing in recent months – I’ve seen more and more of them. In fact, just today I discovered a huge list of 101 in 1001 lists going back to around 2004 (when I first saw them, huh). They seem to be very popular things to create on New Years. I had no idea!

I don’t have a great track record with my public to do lists (I couldn’t complete my 25 in 2005 list, or my 26 in 2006 list, and I couldn’t even make a 27 in 2007 list, and 28 in 2008 wasn’t even a twinkle in my eye). I think that’s why I’ve resisted this challenge for so long.

Then I thought, “Maybe making the list would kill a little time on a slow afternoon.”

A week later, after many, many tweaks and false starts and rejected items, I actually came up with a challenging list that feasibly could be done in 1001 days.

I honestly don’t expect to mark every single thing off of this list. There are some constraints – time, money, the universe bending to my will – that will most likely make some of these tasks impossible.

I also included 5 “Freebies” – I was getting burnt out, and knew that at some point in the future I’d come up with a great idea to add to the list. Or I’d do something outrageous and therefore list-worthy. So these give me a little flexiblity for the 2 and a half year journey.

Sweet jebus. I don’t even know what I’m having for dinner tonight, but I’m thinking that I’ll be able to complete 101 tasks over a 2+ year timespan? I must be crazy.

Oh, who am I kidding. This is going to be fun.

Full list is here. I’ve got some work to do.

Whoa. That’s a serious list. Making a will is a big one I need to do, too. Maybe I should do a list. Maybe I should put making a list on the list. Because I’m not sure I have enough goals to fill it right now.

    To Sphincter -

It makes me happy to see other non-goal oriented people.
